The Mountain and the Wall
Last year I had the opportunity to travel to Phoenix for a quick two day meeting. Now, Phoenix in early April is just about as good as it gets, especially considering I was traveling from Ohio, where we have had a brutally long and cold winter.
Each of the two days that I was there I woke up early enough (I blame the three hour time difference) to get in an early morning jog. The views, the fragrances, the perfect temperatures… I was on sensory overload!
As I rounded the last turn on the property, a majestic mountain range backdrop stopped me in my tracks. I pulled out my phone to capture the image hoping it would somehow do it justice. The wall that surrounded the gated community where I was staying did make it difficult to capture a clear picture, but I held my phone up as high as I could and snapped the shot.
As I continued on, my heart was filled with gratefulness and appreciation as to what the Lord allowed me to behold.
Beyond the Wall
The next morning I arose with anticipation to hopefully encounter the beautiful sunrise once again. Rather than going the same direction though, I decided to jog the opposite way. Again, the temperatures were perfect, the fragrance that I experienced yesterday were renewed and the view of the majestic mountain range was just around the corner.
As I approached I could hardly contain my excitement for the view I anticipated! What did I find as I rounded the bend? A scene that was even more magnificent than the previous day! No wall to obscure my view. Colorful flowers and cactus graced the plaza where I stood. The light was softer and I was standing in sheer amazement at the beauty.
New Perspectives
What did this experience teach me? A new perspective can cause us to love God even more. Just when we think that we are at full capacity, God reveals something to us in a new way that causes our capacity to love Him grow even further.
I had a new found appreciation for the infinite love that God has for me and you. I was reminded of Ephesians 3:18-19 which declares, “and may you be able to feel and understand, as all God’s children should, how long, how wide, how deep, and how high his love really is; and to experience this love for yourselves, though it is so great that you will never see the end of it or fully know or understand it. And so at last you will be filled up with God himself” (Living Bible).
My encouragement for you today is, try changing your perspective on a situation. Look at it with new eyes, new thoughts, from someone else’s point of view. Perhaps, like me, you will find yourself standing in sheer amazement.
